Review of the Oday 25 by Bob Cook

Year built 1977
Location of boat Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1979
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added new main 2003, new 150 2001,depth gague, wind speed meter, new holding tank
Structural or complex improvements reinforced the bow eye with 1.5 in thick ash backing inside for mooring. she has taken 50 knots winds on the moorings with no problems.added tracks where the jib blocks are so I can reef the working jib and change the sheet location.
The boat's best features easy to sail and safe
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the orginal tiller is straight and hits your knees so I built one with a 4 inch rise, much better on our knees. the holding tank didn't hold up and it was too small, replaced it with a bag.
Sailing characterisitcs I can fly the 150 in winds up to 17-18 knots apparent before I have to reef, that's with the new full battened main. anything over 30 knots double reef the main and reef the working jib (I had reefing points put in) and you still have to work hard to keep it going straight, mainly by lufting the main. anything over 2o knots your going to take some spray and get wet.
Motoring characterisitcs my boat is a 25 tall rig with a fin keel and has a 7.5 hp westerbeke inboard. The motor is a 2-cycle and pushes the boat along at 5 knots
Liveability not bad for two short people, gets small with more.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I've had the boat for 25 years and have had it in the water every year but 1996. The only things I've replaces are a couple broken turn buckels, the hatch boards because of delamination and a cracked rudder pivot.
