Review of the Oday 23 by Bruce Hensley

Year built 1969
Location of boat Maryville, Tennessee
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - I am doing a total restoration of it and hope to have it in top shape in 12 - 18 months.
Gear that's been added - gas stove top in the galley - 12 volt refrigerator - new stool in the head - solar battery charger - all new cushions - new carpet
Structural or complex improvements I am re-configuring the entire deck to slope away from the cabin so that water will not accumulate along the sides where the railings and hardware are mounted. I am re-configuring the cabin layout to inclde a private head. The old portlights are being replaced with 6 new portlights. Two new bubble skylights are being installed. I am repairing all spider cracks in the fiberglass and repainting entire boat.
The boat's best features I have only owned it since October 1 so it is in the remodel stage.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I do not like the way that the deck holds water along the sides.
Sailing characterisitcs None yet
Motoring characterisitcs None yet
Liveability Besides a low ceiling it seems ok.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The boat was purchased from a private individual.
Other comments I am looking forward to using it on the many lakes we have in this area - with my grandchildren.
