Review of the Oday 272 by Gary Erlinger

Year built 1987
Location of boat Mission Bay - San Diego
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1989
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - Absolutely perfect boat for single handing or taking up to 5 or 6 people.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Lots of room for the size and weight. Easy for a person to handle at dock or underway. I took the prop off 12 years ago and never put it back. Go everywhere under sail. Very comfortable interior. External ruder makes for excellent responsiveness. Well balanced. Mast height only 35' so I can make it under the bridge witout tabernacling. Only draws 2'11' which is great for the bay.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems...and I use it a lot.
Sailing characterisitcs Excellent in all wind condidtions.
Motoring characterisitcs Dont use the inboard diesel.
Liveability Great for weekends but too small for liveaboard.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from Capitol Marine in Carson City,NV. I give them a 10 on a 10 point scale.
Other comments Ideal boat for Southern Cal.
