Review of the Oday Daysailer by Brian Kleinjans

Year built 1979
Location of boat Hayden, Idaho
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1983
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. It has been the perfect boat for the past 22 years. My kids grew up on it. My family has enjoyed it in Michigan, Indiana, and Idaho. I can trail it behind any car. It is easy to step the mast, rig, launch and sail. It has room for 6 in the cockpit. Obviously, if there was a better sailboat I would have bought one
Gear that's been added NO
Structural or complex improvements The mast pushed through the fiberglass in the cuddy and I put a 1/4" aluminum plate in. It has worked very well.
The boat's best features Trailability, size of the cockpit and ease of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Leaks in the centerboard area.
Sailing characterisitcs Best sail I ever had was on Lake Macatawa in Holland, Michigan with my brother and father. We planed on a reach the length of the lake and out the channel to Lake Michigan. The waves were large enough to send the bigger sailboats in, but we stayed out and surfed the waves. Then we planed back through the channel the length of the lake. I will never forget it. This boat is so much fun. We like to throw a rope off the stern and pull people. There is plenty of room to picnic. I can be serious and really beat windward. The boat does it all.
Motoring characterisitcs Only use the 2hp motor when I absolutely have to. Just to get back to shore.
Liveability Never slept overnight but the kids used to conk out in the cuddy. There is room for a cooler so you can spend almost the whole day on the water.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments My brother liked mine so much he went and bought one for his family.
