Review of the Oday 22 by John

Year built 1976
Location of boat Ft. Pierce, FL
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely, great little boat, sails well, safe, and forgiving. Moves pretty good in light air and handles a blow pretty good.
Gear that's been added Pretty Stock... removed the sink and cabinet. Built a shelf for a cooler in it's place. Added a solar battery charger.
Structural or complex improvements Relaced all the wood inside and out and painted the hull, deck, and interior with 2 part polyurethane. New cushions.
The boat's best features Ease of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Boat appears solid. It had been neglected and the wood was replaced for cosmetic reasons.
Sailing characterisitcs Points well, not a racer, but I have run down boats a lot bigger. It wiil keep moving in almost no air and it holds up to blow well for it's size.
Motoring characterisitcs Johnson 4.5 pushes it fine. I have to cross an open inlet during tide changes and I can go upcurrent fine. A little more horsepower against a strong tide would be nice.
Liveability Liveabilty? Two people could camp for a weekend, but we are a family of five and it's only good for day sailing. Size is forcing an upgrade, I'm going to hate to see her go.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any private sale
Other comments i had a macgregor 22, and a South Coast 23. The Oday 22 is a lot more boat than both of the others. It is afine day sailor and is easy to tow and launch. If the family didn't want to cruise, I wouldn't be looking to move up.
