Review of the Oday 32 by Henry Keddie

Year built 1977
Location of boat Campbell River B.C. Canada
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes!
Gear that's been added Full cockpit dodger with stainless steel frame. This allows full use of cockpit when at anchor/dock in bad weather. With removable panels we can sail with some or all panels removed and still keep the top covered from the sun.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Handles well in rough water. Great to have after cabin. 30hp Westerbeke is very reliable. Lots of fuel.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Front of the engine access is terrible. Belt replacement and water pump access requires squirmming around.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails Great. Goes fine in 5-10kts. Super going on a beam reach.Down wind 15-20 is great tacks well
Motoring characterisitcs Autopilot and set the speed, laze around watching the scenery, motor noise not bad at all. Does seem to sit down at the stern and always have black line at transom, maybe need injectors reworked but don't see any smoking from exhaust
Liveability Not bad, been on anchor several days in a row due to bad weather and find that if you are prepared and plan there is enogh space for all the conveniences for a good time.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Our boat has given us more pleasure than owning a cottage. We do call it "our cottage" buy the water, we just change the view all the time. In a gale the mast pumps when at anchor or the dock. Need more water tankage, but is this only my problem?
