Review of the Oday 34 by Ben

Year built 1981
Location of boat Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added CD player, new toilet, and VHF radio
Structural or complex improvements The boat is great. I just wax it every spring and tend to the little nicks and dings that happen.
The boat's best features It's a roomy boat that sails with the best of them. She's a real beauty on the water with lots of nice wood inside. A dream to sail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the bolt on keel is hard to keep from forming a crack but does not pose any problems. Most boats have this type of keel now a days and it seems to work very nicely.
Sailing characterisitcs Have sailed in 30 knot winds with no problems. Points well into the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs The motor seems to bog down when motoring into a strong head wind.
Liveability Two people can live aboard with no problem. It was sold as sleeping 6. It can do that as long as four are young children. A family of four like mine with two adults and two children is no problem.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
