Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, i definetly would, it has been a great choice of a boat for me.
Gear that's been added A Dickenson 1200 BTU propane heater, 2 burner stove/oven to replace the stovetop, a 30 amp 3 stage battery charger, I changed the battery system to 2 6 volt batteries in series for my house bank and 1 starting battery, a garmin chartplotter, new Doyle sails, an Asym spin., all new standing and running rigging, a new CDI roller furler, all new raymarine instuments and a dodger.
Structural or complex improvements I have basically rewired the entire boat, with the exception of the wires leading to the lights. The wires were a little weak for my needs. I made a new table top and ice box top (nav station) out of solid walnut. With help from my mom we redid the interior cushion in nantucket red. Before getting new foam cut i made the base for the cushions 2 1/2" wider for a more comfortable place to sit and I made the back out of 1" high density foam to further increase the sitting area. I am currently replacing the white formica in the galley with corian and adding a leaf next to the sink. I am replacing the windows in the spring, any ideas? The best improvemnt though has a 1 piece mattress for the v-berth! I have refinished all the wood and plan on replacing the cabinets with solid walnut and replacing the capeting on the hull w/ strips of poplar. I replaced the porlight in the hull and ground out all the rotten wood backing and affixed with through bolts the new port to the hull dicectly.
The boat's best features The sailing characteristics and the livability in a 30' boat. I think that the aft cabin (my garage) in conjuction with the aft head makes the boat awesome.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think that the design of the head plumbing is awful, the thoughhul should not be on the other side of the boat pipes bend around too much to make them efficient. before I redid the interior cushion, I think they were too narrow.
Sailing characterisitcs Ive sailed my boat for 8 seasons almost every weekend, night after work and muliple weeks at a time (I even got to cruise for 3 months 1 summer:)) and i think she sails best on a close reach, with low waive heights. Although a broad reach with the A sym up is pretty sweet also. My only complaint would be that the boat is a little light, but once you learn how to really sail the boat and the proper amount of sail area to have out its fine. I find that reefing the main 1st works better than reffing the genoa 1st.
Motoring characterisitcs It has been my experience that any boat that sails well dosent motor well at all. My boat has plenty of power and manovers well, but dosent track well under power, and w/ the 2 blade prop walks to port hugely in reverse, but can be used as an advantage in a slip. I actually go either bow or stern to at the slip depending on the location because she goes left in reverse until enough water is over the rudder to counteract that. I find the boat vibrates alot under power, but who want to be motering anyway!
Liveability It has been good livabord, it is spacious with ample storage for 1 person, I love the boat.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
