Review of the Oday 22 by erik follendorf

Year built 1981
Location of boat sagharbor ny
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, this is a very friendly boat. Easy to sail, simple to work on. Every effort that I put into the boat comes back to me in the form of pleasure.
Gear that's been added New jib/main,9.9 johnson,gps,depth finder,lights,shore power connection,transom swim/ladder platform,starboard hatch boards,new inteior storage hatch covers,boom vang,spinnacker plus spin pole,dingy plus 6hp evin,trailor More...
Structural or complex improvements Braced interior of transom for outboard motor bracket. I followed advice from this forum. I made all new star board divider's and shelf for the interior of the starboard cockpit hatch, ie.water tank and battery shelf.
The boat's best features Shoal draft and ease of trailering!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I don't like the lack of a traveler. I feel this lends to the tenderness in stronger winds!
Sailing characterisitcs See above
Motoring characterisitcs I feel that a 9.9 is the best hp match.
Liveability Tight with 2 on board, short term only!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Because of its length, I find it very easy to work on. You can start and finish most projects the same day (waxing the haul)etc. I've allowed myself to become grounded when the tide turned and easily re-floated with no problems.
