Review of the Oday 26 by Ken

Year built 1985
Location of boat Jefferson City Tn Cherokee lake
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? i would most definitly buy this boat again, she was in good condition when purchased all thought not sailed alot. i sailed her for two years without a problem.
Gear that's been added pulled the boat and did a complete bottom job. interlux 2000e, petit antifouling, replace mast lite, added anchor lite. bilge pump, shakels and lines
Structural or complex improvements i did not like the way the core showed at the center of the rudder sanded and refaired with mass epoxies, and repainted looks much better.
The boat's best features forward anchor locker, swing keel, althougt don't like the swing keel raise mech..
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The carragage for the swing keel is a very poor desing, many other have had leeks here and so have i, the previous owner tried some repair. i worked on strenghting it up also
Sailing characterisitcs boat sail well in 5 knots or better, any thing less and it sails like pig. had it broach one time but it corrected very quickly, lost control for only a second
Motoring characterisitcs useing a outboard, no poblems, tighten the out board so it does not move freely, and use the rudder to steer, if your not real nemble getting to the motor to start it is a pain, elect start would be nic.
Liveability i spend a lot of weekend on the boat as in 'all week end' ussually sleep in the galley area, v berth to hot and the noises are amplified. use the main cooler for storage and use ice chest for ice. took aout the the orginal stove and use a rail mounted grill. for two it does really good. if more than two or mixed company you had all better be real good friends.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any boat from a member of the local sail club, but would recoomeedn any one new to seek "expert" advice
Other comments really like my 26, she looks better than many of the boats in the marina that are not even close to her age, she is a great lake sailer and weekender, overnighter, even trailer easy, allthought she stays in the water all year, the one ocassion for trailering her it all weent well and not as difficult as one would emagine.
