Review of the Oday 27 by Julian Hood

Year built 1975
Location of boat Lake Sinclair Ga.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I like the size of the boat for sailing. Great boat for bringing along friends. Good creature comforts.
Gear that's been added Yes, Raymarine dual speed & depth guage,Garhauer linebrakes for the main & jib halyards so that I can singlehand from the cockpit. Repowered with a late model Atomic four. Autotiller is a nice feature. Previous owner let it go with the boat.
Structural or complex improvements Strengthened soft deck spots with resin. Rigged it for singlehanding from the cockpit.
The boat's best features Plenty of bang for the buck. Trim it out right and you don't even have to touch the tiller.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Kept it on the coast for a few years, handled ocean sailing well. Now living on a lake with 400 miles of shoreline for kinder gentler sailing although she does heel well in high wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors well with the atomic four. Does concern me that with 4 people in the cockpit the exhaust port is partialy submerged. Very little reverse steerage even with the featherman 3 blade prop.
Liveability I like the 6 ft headroom, comfortable to sleep on.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought it from a marina.
Other comments Great boat, would buy it again.
