Location of boat cleveland ohio
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? i am glad with the investment i made. shes a good first time owner boat.
Gear that's been added i replaced the rudder last year. i mounted a boom vang. a new compass. windvain. redid the electirc through out the boat including the box. replaced the bow light. also have spinnaker equipment. i drilled a watertight seal through the transom for a gas line from the starboard locker to the engine mount. reinforced the mast tabernackle with steel plates encased in half-inch thick pvc below deck. next i would like to add a traveler to the transom and paint the deck and hull.
Structural or complex improvements when i first got her there was tons of damage to the keel. so first i refiberglasses the keel. So of course i had to paint the bottom. i replaced the backstay and the turnbuckles on all the standing rigging. replacing the backstay i added a triangle plate so i could run sheeting to the boom. i also replaced and reinforced the angle brackets that mount the square u bolts to the bulkhead.
The boat's best features she handles well. in a good breeze she can take it. its roomy enough for two to spend the weekend on the islands.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. you name it and it can happen. like i said i procured her in not the greatest of conditions. so there is constant upgrading and work to do.
Sailing characterisitcs when she to windward she has a lot of weather helm. when your running downwind unless your in a good breeze she needs a whisker pole to steady the 150. when you adjust the boat obviously small incriments are needed but her reaction time takes a second. she is very forgiving. i love her sailing ability best in strong wind. once iam set a can let go of the tiller and she sails herself.
Motoring characterisitcs i had a johnson six. which i am currently working on. so i have a 46# thrust transom trolling motor. i picked it up at west marine on sale. also got a deep cycle battery (900). runs well and serves its purpose.
Liveability for two i would say the day even overnight unless there is destination involved. solo i have taken her out for a week no problem.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) never have
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any i bought my boat in a backyard deal.
Other comments i love my boat.
