If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? My sailing experience was with small prams, then Hobie Cats, and now my monohull. Almost everything I know about sailing applies, but the comfort factor of the boat is something I really enjoy. She is easy and comfortable to spend a day sailing around the bay or calm ocean.
Gear that's been added We have lots of added goodies. Deepth/Fish Finder, Stereo, Solar vent, Bimini Top, Gas tank Storage, Sail Covers, Second Anchor, GPS, VHF, Propane BBQ, Ladder, and Curtains.
Structural or complex improvements The most complex job so far was replacing the tabernacle at the base of the mast. Didn't need anything else.
The boat's best features The ease of sailing. She is very comfortable to sail and manuevers very well under wind or power. My cabin is not used often, most stay in the cockpit or on deck. Great for a solo one nighter, but gets cramped if a second persson comes along. I am 6'1" and 210lbs, so I only ise the cabin when out alone. Otherwise, I stay in the cockpit and the wife may go in to read a book, make something to eat, or take a nap.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. With light wind, she is very slow. At least she was, until I started using my whicher pole on the jib to catch more wind. The combination of the whister pole on the jib, spinnaker, and mainsail opposite the jib, has allowed us to get good speed in light winds. No mater how hard I try to get rid of leaks from the rain, it seems to always find it's way in. Going to silicone the hell out of all deck mountings in hopes it stops these leaks. The boat is a good stable vessel and if you want to pitch 30 degrees in a good wind and rip across the bay at 5 to 6 knots, she will cooperate. No real complaints with this boat.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is an easy sail. She knows what you want out of her and gives it to you. Handles well in wind above 5 knots and really exciting when you get to 10 knots of wind. She loves to run close hauled and does it well. Her ability to run through the shallows still scraes me, but with 23" of draft, I guess I should relax. Great boat to learn how to sail.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 8hp Johnson Sailmaster which powers her well. Generally cruising under power is about 6mph. Turning under power can be improved if you use the tiller and motor to make a turn.
Liveability Living on board is not an option on a boat this size. It is great for maybe a weekend, but we only use it for one nighters. The porta pottie is fine for the wife, but any #2 is a shore stop. The boats ability to cruise right into a beach makes this an easy ordeal. Cooking on board a boat this ssize leave odors of food in the cabin, we now do most of our cooking on the BBQ. 5 gallons of water is plenty as I always have a case of drinking water on board and the on board water is only used for washing utensils, dished and hands. We use the bay water for a rough cleaning and finalize with fressh water. Settees are okay for sleeping but not if it is rough.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Oday boats are a great buy. If I had it to do over agian, I would. I have looked at larger boats and then came back to mine to fine I enjoy the size and lact of excessive work required for a day sail.
