Year built 1986
Location of boat Afloat
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Blue water, extended passages
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2015
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely YES!
Gear that's been added Hydrovane, AIS VHF, HAM Radio, Fusion Stereo, many speakers, all lights converted to LEDs, Garmin 741xs with Radar, depth transducer with water temp. 500 watt of solar wit 3 MPPT controllers into 3 battery banks. Still coming is water maker and a few other things that make life easier.
Structural or complex improvements Hydrovane, more insulation on the ice box.
The boat's best features Roomy, comfy to sleep and travel and handles excellent. My 2 kids and dog love this boat. We love outrunning people if heading in the same direction :)
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Some moisture in deck due to cheap fixture installments, few little things here and there but nothing major. Anti slip very slippery, just painted over bit of roughness.
Sailing characterisitcs She points well, and sails excellent in most conditions even heavy seas and storms, she heaves to perfect in 50kt winds with large swells. Downwind she runs great with a spinnaker, but not with main sail since it will not go to 90 degree due to the stay. Best to drop main sail and run spinnaker alone. She has done one Atlantic passage with 2 storms and handled it perfect. Took 18 days Boston to Azores with 2 full days sitting in no wind and swimming mid atlantic :) So she is a fast one.
Motoring characterisitcs At the moment looking into a 2 blade Flex o fold propeller to replace a 3 bladed fixed which does not give me any speed over 5kn, other than that ok
Liveability Excellent, very roomy, Im 65 and have headroom nearly to the mast and have to duck only when going to the head or V-berth. Very comfy aft cabin (my favorite) and v-berth. Nice galley, with plenty of room to cook and store things. We had a party of 20 people on the boat 10 below and there was still room.....
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments We love our boat and plan to sail her for many year to come
