Review of the Oday 26 by bobhart48

Year built 1984
Location of boat Islamorada, Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1984
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, that is why I still have it today. I bought it new in 1984
Gear that's been added Refrigeration, boarding ladder, head w/ holding tank, high amperage alternator and regulation, inverter, autohelm
Structural or complex improvements Installed a Yanmar 14hp diesel with a Yanmar SD20 saildrive, and a Gori folding prop.
The boat's best features Large, trailerable, shoal draft w/ centerboard sail boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Really nothing that good periodic maintenance wouldnt solve. I did replace the tiller pintles with more robust hardware, and buttressed the bow eye, and replaced the tiller proper with a laminated one. Also, I replaced the companionway plywood with solid teak. Always keep the chainplates caulked.
Sailing characterisitcs This vessel has more than adequate sailing characteristics at all points of sail to satisfy any small boat cruising fellow
Motoring characterisitcs Par excellent with the 14hp Yanmar diesel. I was becalmed offshore near Cuba and motored almost 100 miles back to the US, using only about 4 gal of fuel
Liveability Surprisingly roomy for just 25. My wife and I, with two boys would do the great Lakes for a couple of weeks at a time.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
