Review of the Oday 322 by seaferet

Year built 1988
Location of boat Middle River, MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2018
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I bought when not really looking at 32fters.. Looking for bigger. She was a little rough around the edges but has shaped up nicely. Cleaning waxing, repairing odds and ends plus new sails, refreshed bottom, new lines, and a few electronics. She needs paint on the deck as it was badly done.
Gear that's been added Repaired the Fridge, replaced Depth Sounders, plotter, pumps, sails, etc. Removed Loran C and old sailing computer
Structural or complex improvements No, but added a 3 x 10 teak board next to the nav station to store winch handles. Super easy add-on. I should document it as I have found several good ideas posted on like ideas online.
The boat's best features She sails well in the bay and did so on the Delaware River. We have taken her on 3/4/5 day trips.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Keel is a concern, a better wiring conduit ( port to STB), and a deeper anchor locker. Other issues are that the bimini n dodger we have could use improvement. Sun, heat, n weather protection is limited. She is a bay, lake, river or, near a coastal boat due to a number of design choices in my opinion.
Sailing characterisitcs She sails comfortably on most points. Downwind is less than exciting. Considering a Spin of some sort.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors very well in most conditions. Very good on fuel. We have motored her way too much due to time and wind restraints. 6 knots at 2100 and 1/3 or less gph -
Liveability Very comfortable. I yearn for a centerline queen.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Long out of business
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private Sale
Other comments Gray Goose has been a great starter boat for us. Low operational cost and has allowed us to make cheaper mistakes while enjoying sailboat life. Ive sailed on many boats and I cant think of a better boat for a budget-minded sailors)
