Review of the Oday Daysailer by Justin Andrus

Year built 1982
Location of boat Falmouth, Maine
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. I have had great fun with this boat. ITs safe, stable, and has a cockpit as nice as many keel boats.
Gear that's been added Yep. I have added navigation lights, bilge pump, compass, battery, jiffy reefing, horn, tiller tamer, outboard engine.
Structural or complex improvements I replaced the centerboard and rudder with parts from Cape Cod Ship Building. I added closed cell foam floatation to the boyance tanks. I rigged the boat for 12volt electric I installed scuppers with oneway valves to assist with bailing if the boat capsized. I replaced all of the standing rigging.
The boat's best features Sailing characteristics. Durability
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The centerboard pivot mechanism is prone to leaking.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is a blast to sail. In winds over about 15 knots she'll plane on reaches. I like to go out and race the PHRF fleet. Its fun to beat the J-boats.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a four horsepower outboard. It is just enough to plane the hull. I have seen about 14 knots with the centerboard retracted
Liveability Well, its an open boat, so its not so good for living on.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
