How the boat is used Press here and select one
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, this was my First "big" boat. I had owned and still do a Helms 25 trailer sailer. but this boat had the feel of a big boat. It sails well in brisk wind but needs larger headsails in calm winds.
Gear that's been added Added roller furling, and all new electronics, had the diesel redone, added shaft seal, put in new fuel tank. Had all interior cushions recovered. Added ST3000, Added Bimini top.
Structural or complex improvements None but plan to add a hatch on top behind the mast in to the main cabin and one from the cockpit into the quarterbirth. That is pretty complicated for me. Bought davits but have not put them on.
The boat's best features Centerboard. I can get into 3.5 feet and on this coast I can really get into neat places in and around the keys.It is roomy for a 30 footer.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Motor is hard to access and ice box is not well insulated. This boat is in warm weather and really needs a retrofit with one of the new insulator type kits. .centerboard has tendancy to stick up if not left partialy down. (so you can bring it up and break free any growth)
Sailing characterisitcs Sails better than it motors. When it is rough you need to reef down and put up small jib. She goes right thru. Into the wind with the board down it tracks well.
Motoring characterisitcs The 2 blade prop must be clean to move this boat. the motor is small 15hp and labors if barnicals are present. Also in the hot weather the fuel lines clog and I have had to change filters several times in inconvenient places. Chugs and stalls out. It does have bleeding systems to get the air out and fuel in but one must have patience and try try again.
Liveability Me, wife two teens for a month in the Keys. Tight but we made it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) no ecperience
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I feel like I own a Yacht now. I like working on it.Its just as well a 22 year old boat needs it now and again.
