Review of the Oday 322 by dave desseyn

Year built 1988
Location of boat columbia, s.c.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes. the boat has a great layout with the look through bulkhead providing ample airflow and lighting for the whole cabin. The icebox is a nice size, easily made into a freezer, and the water tanks and fuel tanks are adequate. The boat is easily raced, family adapted and responds well in heavy air. Reefing the main down with a full genny produces a fine tracking line and the deisel size makes for a nice cruise if needed. The engine noise is somewhat excessive, and the storage can be a bit taxing at times. Make sure and have plenty of fans for added ventilation in the hot summer months, especially in the aft cabin as claustrophobia could set in.Have chartered many times and would take my boat over many others in a heartbeat.
Gear that's been added nothing out of the ordinary.
Structural or complex improvements n/a
The boat's best features headroom, ease of handling, shallow draft, engine size.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. aft opening hatch, provides little air . this happens due to placement of vang.
Sailing characterisitcs tends to round up in heavy weather over 20 knots, tracks true up to that point. runs like a thoroughbread to weather, not so going downwind.
Motoring characterisitcs pulls to left slightly when backing, loud engine noise, placement of throttle and gear shift could be reworked.
Liveability nice size for tall people with ample leg room, headroom. great for typical party of 4-6 people.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
