Review of the Oday 28 by Andy

Year built 1980
Location of boat CT
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? The O'day is a centerboard boat that was orignally powered by omc saildrive. I've since replaced that with a Yanmar 18hp saildrive,,, what a difference. very very nice. the complete job was slightly over 11,000 this incluces new wiring, batteries, fuel system, exhaust, and a martc folding prop. I have pictures and for anyone wishing to do the same, advice that can save you $$$. E-mail a.j.vomastek@worldnet.att.net WE love the boat, great family weekender,,, only complant now (once the omc was ditched) is the lack of performance in light air and also weather helm at 20knts, plus.
Gear that's been added as stated,,, added a yanmar diesle
Structural or complex improvements no other adds
The boat's best features shoal draft, interior size and original expense to buy,, it looks great and is a modest sailing boat
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. weather helm, need to work on that,,, advice is welcomed
Sailing characterisitcs light air dog,,,, mostly due to 135 head sail,,, 15 to 20knst of wind it is just wonderfull desipite the weather helm
Motoring characterisitcs wonderfull now that the yanmar is in,,, the omc saildrive was too finiky and hard to fine parts
Liveability great for a weekend or week long trip with small family
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any self purchace from owner
Other comments slight oil canning where the spreader bracing is attached
